Colorado Rockies Game – Coors Field, CO

Rain Delay

After being in Colorado for almost a year, we decided to catch our first Rockies baseball game over at Coors Field. As you can guess from the photo above, we ran into a little bit of rain at the stadium. AS a result, the game was delayed for about an hour and fifteen minutes. Not too much to say about the game, except that there really isn’t a bad seat in the park. The cheapest seats, called the Rockpile, are old-school bleachers located at center field. They’ve got a decent view of everything, though probably aren’t that great of an idea if there’s a thunderstorm or two in the area.

As far as food goes, the foot-long bratwursts are possibly the best sausage we’ve tried… and the crushed ice is pretty good, too.

We got to the park, eventually found will-call and got our tickets… and then proceeded to get some food and find our seats. Things went wonderfully, the color guard was in traditional Scottish dress, the national anthem was sung, and the first pitch was thrown. Then the second pitch was thrown, and the Phillies got a home run. Alright, no biggie. The next batter reached first base, and then the third batter… drum roll please… got another home run. That’s when the boos started, just a couple, enough to let the pitcher know that we weren’t really too thrilled with his performance to date. And then the rain started, then the lightning, and soon there was a rain delay. Which continued for 60 – 75 minutes. Fortunately, we were under the upper deck, so we were protected from the weather. And there were some comic moments, like when they were rolling the tarp out and a gust of wind caught it and one of the workers got dragged off of his feet. The crowd thought that that was pretty amusing.

Eventually, the rained stopped, everyone returned to their seats, and the game resumed. Overall, it was a good game, and the Rockies wound up winning, which was fun because the crowd definitely got into the game. The atmosphere at the park is great, no one was really too too drunk, and people were actually watching the game and cheering. And, of course, there was the wave, which, after an unsuccessful first attempt, went around the stadium about 5 times before fading away.

Overall, the game was a good experience, and we’re looking forward to going back – this year if we get a chance, but if not, definitely next year. And we’ll be trying some more of those foot-long brats, too.

Check out our photos from the game.

Things We’ve Learned from the NFL Playoffs this Weekend

  1. Coors Light did a great take on Jim Mora’s “PLAYOFFS!?” press conference.
  2. Maybe the Pats didn’t screw up by releasing Vinitari this year…
  3. The Colts made a great acquisition in Vinitari.
  4. Poor Marty… Poor LT… *sniff*
  5. Budweiser has great commercials… and sometimes zebras are jackasses. ;-)
  6. The Colts defense can step it up.
  7. The playoffs are great to watch when temps are in the single digits.
  8. If we didn’t know that the 24 season premiere was Sunday night, we sure did after watching 2 games on FOX this weekend. :-D
  9. If you get 3 turnovers and 0 points off of them, you stink. Really. Phillip, this means you (since LT had over 120 yards and 2 TDs [I think]).
  10. If it’s 32 degrees outside, with 10 – 15mph winds, and your face is turning various shades of pink, then red, then a sickly reddish-purple color, you might want to think about googling “frostbite”. Mike Holmgren, this means you…
