Dumitri’s and Rosie

Rosie

We decided to venture over to Aurora for breakfast at Dumitri’s, a Greek-American restaurant complete with blue and white tablecloths, good strong coffee, and creative food. Tony opted for a classic meat, potatoes, and egg breakfast, while Louisa had the gyros omelet with tomatoes, scallions, feta cheese and gyros meat served with warm pita bread, potatoes, and tzatziki sauce.

We then drove back to Westminster and went to the Butterfly Pavilion. We saw a variety of butterflies and flowers, and enjoyed watching the butterfly release and learning a little bit about the different butterflies. We also saw a variety of bugs and aquatic creatures (such as starfish and horseshoe crabs). Louisa even held the 4-5 year old tarantula, named Rosie.

We then took a short walk outside, where we got to see several prairie dogs foraging for food.

what can you get with $1? how about 385 of them?

That’s right kids, for the low price of $385 / night ($350 if you belong to AAA) [including tax] you can stay at one of America’s premiere hotels. Which one, you ask? Perhaps the Hilton, or the Hyatt. Surely, a 5 star establishment. No? 4 stars, then, with gourmet food and 24k bathroom fixtures? What, surely not a 3 star hotel?! Nope, for only $385 / night, you can stay at the one, the only… the ECONO LODGE! That’s right, you get: 1 king bed, a table, chairs, even a desk and… a REMOTE-CONTROLLED TV! Living the high life, we are! And the deluxe continental breakfast… consists of your favorites, bread, bagels (from a bag – think Lenders) and store bought sticky buns. There are even a toaster and microwave, along with little packets of butter and jam. All this for…. only…. $385 / night ($350 if you’re lucky!).

*addendum: A “credible” “source” writes that the shower head “flew” off the wall, spraying water everywhere. The friendly front desk clerk perkily said that they were just waiting for the parts to arrive.

Why this driver’s CDL should be revoked. Not to mention his regular license.

This morning’s commute was a true joy. Between 36 being closed (despite the fact that an accident happened in the opposite direction from which we were going), 45 minutes on Wadsworth, and another accident on Hampden, rush hour turned into rush hour and then some.

Apparently a tractor trailer carrying a crane hit a bridge. The bridge is fine, but the crane fell off the truck. Which begs the question: exactly how securely was the crane fastened to the truck in the first place? Not to mention how a driver hit the side of a bridge. We’re not talking about deer or turkey here – bridges don’t go running or flying across the road, they tend to be pretty stationary. And it took 3 hours for the crane to be moved off the road. 3 hours. A little excessive, hum? Yes, I’m slightly bitter, though coffee is beginning to kick in. We hope everyone else had a better morning commute, and that no rogue construction equipment was blocking your way.
