Restaurant Review: Athens Pizza

Last weekend, neither of us felt like cooking and pizza sounded like a good alternative.  Athens Pizza in Northboro seemed like a good choice; they had good reviews and the menu looked unique.  Plus we’re suckers for anything with a Greek flavor.  So we went in and ordered a large meatball sub and a large (17″) pizza with gyro as the topping.  The food was very good, the sub is about 1′ long, the meatballs are large and flavorful and the tomato sauce is thick and well-seasoned.  And the buttered roll didn’t hurt either.  The pizza has a thin but very chewy, hearty crust; the edges are a bit thicker but are actually hollow, since they’re rolled to create a nice handle for the pizza.  There is very little sauce, but the cheese is thick and has a bit of cheddar in it.  The gyro was fantastic, you could taste the mint in it.  We might be back to try some of the Greek items.  They also have 2L and cans of Barq’s root beer, one of our favorite pops.  Overall, we would definitely go back – good food, great service.
