After a fun lunch in downtown Charleston we were headed back home and wanted to get a treat. The Charleston Coffee Exchange was (sort of) on the way, so we stopped. This is a coffee shop that actually smells like coffee the moment you walk through the door. This might be because they have open bags of coffee sitting around, but still, the effect is very nice. We sampled the cafe mocha and pumpkin spice latte. The mocha was thick and creamy, and surprisingly mild. That’s not to say it wasn’t chocolatey, but the flavors of chocolate and coffee actually seemed to be working with (rather than against) each other. The pumpkin spice latte was a nice seasonal treat, though it was a tad bit sweet (and heavy on the spice). It was still quite good, and we’d definitely go back. They also have some great looking baked goods, including NY crumb cake that actually is almost as much crumb as cake, as it should be.
